将軍 SHOGUN Hot Shoe Cover Silver 925

This Hot Shoe Cover was inspired by armor, the Japanese National Treasure - "The Red-Laced Ō-yoroi with Bamboo, Tiger, and Sparrow Ornaments"

The armor is a famous suit dedicated to Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara City, Nara Prefecture.

It has been well known since the Edo period as the armor once associated with the great warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a hero of the Genpei War (late 12th century). Today, it is officially designated as a National Treasure of Japan.

This ō-yoroi is decorated all over with finely crafted metal fittings (kanamono) featuring designs of bamboo and sparrows. On the large rectangular shoulder guards, called ō-sode, there are especially striking fittings depicting a tiger among bamboo.

Because of the extensive use of these metal ornaments, the armor is unusually heavy, weighing close to 29 kilograms, making it one of the heaviest surviving examples of Japanese armor.

Highlights of this masterpiece include the massive kuwagata (helmet crest) set at the front of the kabuto (helmet), the lifelike expressions of sparrows and tigers on the metalwork, and the vivid, flame-like red odoshi-ge (braided cords used for lacing). Altogether, it is a truly spectacular example of samurai armor.
